New for 2019, Bauer has further developed one of the most technically advanced leg pads in the entire goalie area and brought out the Bauer Vapor X2.7 leg pad.
Starting with the face of the Bauer Vapor X2.7, the chart consists of three major main zones, one of which is on the top outside, one inside down and a large zone in the middle diagonally across the length of X2.7 which runs the pad and breaks the two outer ones Zones, along with two sets of "spears" near the top and bottom of the pad for added design. Visually, you will notice the digitally printed design on the top and bottom of the pad, which is implemented for additional design.
In developing the Vapor X2.7 Senior, Bauer has used high-quality synthetic material on the skin of the pad that provides a smooth sliding surface. On the insides of the pad, a dynamic flex core with flex points above and below the knee is used for extra flex for a better butterfly. As you raise your thigh, the profile thins as it nears the top of the pad and reaches a square end to reduce the weight in the thigh area. At the bottom of the shoe, a 100-degree flex shoe is used to give the goalkeeper a better angle in the cushion so he gets a lower level that fits more naturally on the leg. This facilitates articulation and important maneuvering selections.
If you look at the side profile of the Bauer Vapor X2.7, you will see the thin design that has been implemented to reduce the overall weight of the pad. On the outer gusset, a curved outer roll rises from the face to act as a traditional outer roll. The sliding surface is turned to the inside edge and has a thin profile with strategic cuts to reduce weight and provide a low-friction surface for the fastest gliding action.
Next, on the back of the X2.7 Senior, is a 45-degree cut on the top edge that increases agility during the kinking movements by preventing the knee stacks from hitting each other. On the inside of the knee area, the binding has been removed from the pad, resulting in a smooth sliding surface. Finally, the knee strap can either be pulled to a provided knee wing, which now provides adjustable options for tightening or loosening the knee wing, or the knee strap can be angled towards the calf.
Further down, the leg channel is lined with a soft pimple material, which gives the goalkeeper a comfortable fit. Both the inner and outer calf wraps have been redesigned with special cuts to give the goalkeeper longer durability and mobility of the pad. Bauer has further developed the Tune Fit Strapping System, which allows for full buckle fastening and adjustments above and below the calf muscle, providing a secure and comfortable fit and an elastic strap over the top that comfortably holds the sliding edge to the leg.
Most recently, Bauer stocked a new option to bind toes with the Monster H.A.L belt, which consists of an elastic band and Velcro fastened to the top of the goalkeeper's skate. Thanks to an elastic toe binding, the goalkeeper can wear the tie close to the skate, but has the flexibility and responsiveness he needs for deep and strong bumps. The toe bridge is in a staggered position, but can be adjusted toward the center if the goalkeeper prefers it. If you're a beginner and you're looking for the best technique for a goalie pad that's lightweight and equipped with optimal flex points, the Bauer Vapor X2.7 Senior Goalie Leg Pads are for you. (Each set includes CRS boot straps and short and long calf replacement straps.)
